UST's Fortuna trains with San Mig Beermen

MANILA, Philippines – Former University of Sto. Tomas (UST) guard Jeric Fortuna has begun training for the San Miguel Beermen of the Asean Basketball League (ABL).

Fortuna, who led the UST Growling Tigers to a finals appearance in the UAAP Season 75 men’s basketball tournament, had previously played for Blackwater in the PBA Development League.

In a text message to radio DZMM, Fortuna confirmed that he will continue his basketball career in the ABL.

“I started last Wednesday. I’m very thankful for the opportunity to have the chance to play in the ABL,” Fortuna said.

“This will really help me grow as a player. Hopefully, everything turns out well,” he added.

Fortuna was one of the best point guards in the UAAP last season, averaging a league-leading 5.5 assists per game to go along with 8.4 points.

Fortuna’s Tigers lost to the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 75 finals, but they gained a measure of revenge by winning the Philippine Collegiate Champions League over Ateneo.  – Report from Erik Tenedero, DZMM
